LIR Resource Sponsoring
If your organisation either already holds or plans to request PI (Provider Independent) or LEGACY IP resources, you need an LIR (Local Internet Registry) sponsor.
These resources are allocated directly to your organisation, and you are free to move them between different LIR sponsors.
Only an LIR such as our certified team can become a resource sponsor and request new IP resources from the RIPE NCC on behalf of End User organisations.
Resources without a valid sponsoring agreement need to be returned to RIPE.
New Resources
Under current RIPE NCC policies, direct IPv4 PI assignments are exhausted, meaning organizations can now obtain new Provider Independent IPv6 allocations and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs). We handle the complete eligibility assessment, technical justification filing, and RIPE liaison on your behalf.
We also facilitate dedicated Internet Exchange Point (IXP) allocations from specifically reserved RIPE pools (185.1.0.0/16 and 2001:7f8::/32). These prefixes are strictly provisioned for IXP peering fabrics and interconnect matrices.
Existing Resources
If your company already holds Legacy IP addresses or Provider Independent (PI) subnets, you can migrate your sponsorship to us seamlessly. Whether your previous sponsor terminated services or you require a more responsive partner, we execute the transfer smoothly without routing interruptions.
Our sponsorship service is 100% carrier-neutral. You retain full freedom to announce, migrate, and route your IP blocks across any global transit provider, data center, or cloud environment without lock-in constraints.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still apply for a new IPv4 Provider Independent (PI) prefix?
No. According to RIPE NCC allocation policy, IPv4 PI space is fully exhausted and no longer assigned. If you need new IPv4 space, you can either acquire/transfer an existing allocation via the transfer market or receive an IPv4 /24 allocation by opening a direct LIR account.
What happens during an LIR sponsorship transfer of existing IP blocks?
A sponsorship transfer is purely administrative within the RIPE NCC registry database. We submit a transfer request countersigned by your company representative. Your live BGP routing, traffic flows, and subnets remain active and completely unaffected throughout the process.
Who legally owns the sponsored IP addresses and ASNs?
Your organization remains the official resource holder registered under your dedicated RIPE Org-ID. As your sponsoring LIR, we represent your administrative standing with RIPE NCC while you maintain full ownership and broadcast rights.
What is required to request specialized IXP peering prefixes?
IXP allocations require proof that the applicant operates a neutral Internet Exchange Point with at least three connected, independent ASNs. These addresses must be exclusively utilized for the exchange switching fabric and cannot be advertised to the global Internet routing table.
How does carrier-neutral sponsorship benefit my infrastructure?
Unlike telecom-tied IP allocations, independent sponsorship separates your IP registry management from your upstream transit providers. You can freely switch upstream carriers, move data centers, or deploy multi-cloud BYOIP setups without renumbering your IP space.
